Bad Eating Habits

Since I started losing weight, I’ve noticed that I have a few bad eating habits. I wanted to let you all know in case you’re doing them too but don’t even realize it!

1) Clearing your plate.

This is not a good habit. Eat until you get full, not until all of the food is gone. I figured out that I would eat whatever was on my plate, and usually it was way too much.

2) Saving the best for last.

I used to eat one food at a time, always saving my favorite for last. But this means that I would always be compelled to eat until my plate was clear, because I wouldn’t want to miss out on my favorite food! A good tip would be to eat vegetables and fruit first, and then the next healthiest thing, and then the next healthiest, etc. That way, if you get full you can stop and not feel guilty because the worst thing on your plate is still there!

3) Eating at night.

You shouldn’t eat right before you go to bed because then your body can’t work it off before you go to sleep. Some people say don’t eat 6 hours before bed, but I think that’s a bit ridiculous, 4 should be fine. Also, if you are counting your calories, you’ll be less likely to eat at night because you probably already hit your limit for the day.

4) Not counting calories.

You’d be surprised how quickly 2000 calories adds up. If you count calories you know what you’re putting in your body and then you can control it more easily. Seriously, I never would have guessed how many calories I was eating before. Also, now I take advantage of things that are “fat free” or “reduced fat” because I know how much it will help in the long run. Normally, you can’t even tell the difference between “fat free” and the real thing anyway.

5) Not drinking water.

Water is like a miracle. It’s 0 calories, great for your body, and fills you up. Scientists say to drink 8 glasses a day. Now, I’m not sure if I’ve ever hit 8 glasses a day, but I normally aim for 4 or 5. It keeps you full without putting empty calories in your belly. I always drink water (or green tea) and everything else is considered a treat just like a brownie or cupcake would be.

This is all I can think of for now, but I will add more as I think of it. Let me know if you have any tips you’d like to add!
